"Simplicity is the greatest form of sophistication."

Since 1981, the Wausau Area Youth Soccer Association has provided the simplest form of soccer: youth playing and being physically active as part of the beautiful game of soccer.

Over the past several years, the WAYSA Board has had discussions regarding the program's future and its direction in the coming years. Volunteers are the key to success, and it has become more difficult each season to recruit Board members and coaches and maintain a pool of officials.

It is with heavy heart that the board has decided that 2023 will be the last WAYSA season.The WAYSA board knows how important it is to have a recreational league for our community. WAYSA has been instrumental in the starting of the area High School teams and Club Programs over the years which lead to discussions with the Marathon United Soccer Club (MCU).

MCU has committed to start offering their own recreational program with the same setting, format, and similar fee structure for the 700-plus players and families in the current WAYSA league. Some of our WAYSA Board members will serve as committee members within their organization, and we will be available as resources to see a successful 2024 season.
